Lesson 96: Truth
About the Searcher
Dear Poppy,
Granny still tells the family stories of when you two first got married. Then you had my mom. Next came my aunt and uncle. Granny says you were an honest man that people could always rely on. I wanted you to know how the family has grown over the decades, but we still get together every Christmas.
We never got the chance to meet, but this Christmas I wonder what you would want to tell me about being a man. I imagine you would say something simple, like, “Always tell the truth.” It is no coincidence people could rely on you; you told the truth no matter the pressures that surrounded you. You would want me to do the same, especially as my responsibilities as a man continue to grow.
About Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition
Poppy, I am pursuing my masters degree so I can buy a small business. There are investors who provide capital and guidance for young leaders that want to buy and grow a small business. Together, we look for a business owner with a great company, but they are still in need of a transition plan for the next owner of the business. We would provide a solution to their problem.
You might be wondering why a business owner with years of experience would rely on me to run their business and I have zero years of experience? I plan to tell them about you. People could always rely on you and I plan to carry on that legacy, just like I plan to carry on the legacy of that business owner. I am looking for an owner who tells the truth so that their people can rely on them, and they can count on me to carry the business forward into its next stage of growth.
I made a small example of what could happen if I, as a Searcher, acquired a small business and doubled profits over 5 years. This would generate a 35% return for the investors:

About the Bigger Picture
My values are to act with love, humility, and wisdom. You were a man of high character, and your example continues to guide me even though you have passed on. As my grandfather, you lived a life that not only helped me learn values like telling the truth, but your life lives on in how I commit to operate a great business one day very soon.
Merry Christmas from all of us.
Love,
Nigel
